Their criticism and my rebuttal
What I found most difficult to understand was that they attacked my paper published in 2003. However, as I have explained at length, after publishing that paper, I went on to publish several more papers before their critique was published in 2011. Therefore, I had no idea why they went out of their way to single out my 2003 paper for criticism. They probably had not read my later papers. If they had reached out to me directly, I would have likely asked them to read those papers first. Nevertheless, I believe some of their criticisms highlight important issues between population genetics and population ecology. Below, I will briefly examine their criticisms of my research.
There were several criticisms of my 2003 paper, but I believe the most significant one was regarding the intrinsic rate of increase I derived from my experiments, which was based on individual male-female pairs. In other words, they argued that the intrinsic rate of increase is a population parameter (to quote them) and should apply to the population as a whole, rather than to individual pairs. Therefore, in response to this criticism, I prepared the following rebuttal and sent it via email to those who had criticized me. The exchange was conducted in English, but I would like to summarize my argument below. My rebuttal defends the validity of applying the intrinsic rate of natural increase at the individual (genotype) level.

彼らの批判と私の反論
何よりも私が解せなかったことは、彼らは2003年に発表した私の論文に対して攻撃を仕掛けてきたわけですが、これまで延々と述べてきたように、私はこの2003年の論文を発表した後も、彼らが論文を発表する2011年までの間に、さらにいくつかの論文を発表していたので、彼らがなぜ2003年の論文をわざわざ持ち出して批判してきたのか、さっぱりわかりませんでした。彼らは私のその後の論文を読んでなどいなかったのでしょうから、もし個人的に尋ねてきてくれていれば、あとに発表した論文を読んでみてくれといえたのだろうと思います。それでも、集団遺伝学と集団生態学との間のとても重要な問題であると思うポイントもあるので、一応、彼らが私の研究について、何を批判していたのかについて、以下で手短に考えていきたいと思います。
私の2003年の論文について、いくつか批判されていたのですが、もっとも大きな批判は、私が実験の結果から導出した内的自然増加率が、1組の雄と雌の成虫ごとに得られたものだということに対するものだったと思います。つまり、彼らが主張するところでは、内的自然増加率というものは集団のパラメーター（彼らの言葉を引用）であり、個体に対してではなく、集団に対して適用されるものだということでした。そこで、この批判に対して、私は以下のような反論を用意し、それを批判してくれた彼らにメールで送ったのでした。実際には英語でのやり取りだったのですが、こちらの主張を以下にまとめておきたいと思います。内的自然増加率を個体（遺伝子型）のレベルで適用することの妥当性を主張するものです。
