The nursing home with care services G that hired me was operated by a relatively large company in the industry. This company ran numerous nursing homes with care services and group homes for dementia care, primarily in Tokyo and Saitama. I remember that the facility where I worked had a day service center on the first floor, a group home for dementia care and a short-stay center on the second floor, and a nursing home with care services on the third to fifth floors. I worked at the nursing home with care services on the third floor. Each floor housed nearly 30 residents, and two night-shift staff members were responsible for their care. I believe I worked from around 5 p.m. the previous evening until about 10 a.m. the following morning. To give a general overview of the night shift procedures: it began with preparing dinner and assisting with serving food and eating. This was followed by bedtime assistance, including administering medication and helping residents change clothes. Throughout the night, several rounds were conducted, along with multiple diaper changes and other forms of excretion assistance. In the early morning, I helped residents wake up and change clothes, then prepared breakfast and assisted with serving food and eating. Finally, I ended the shift by recording the events of the night.

私を採用してくれた介護付き有料老人ホームは、東京や埼玉などを中心に、多くの介護付き有料老人ホームや認知症対応型グループホームなどを運営していた、業界でも何番目かというくらいの比較的大きな企業が運営していた介護事業所でした。私が勤務していた施設は、１階にはデイサービスが入っており、２階には認知症対応型グループホームやショートステイ、3階から5階までは有料老人ホームが入っていたと記憶しています。私は3階の有料老人ホームで勤務していました。1フロアに利用者が30人近く入所していたと記憶していますが、その30人の利用者に対して、夜勤職員は2人体制で対応していました。前日の夕方5時頃から、次の日の午前10時頃までの勤務だったと思います。大まかに夜勤の手順を記してみますと、まず夕食の準備、配膳や食事の介助からはじまり、服薬、更衣などの就寝時の介助、夜間には何回かの巡回、何回かのオムツ交換をはじめとする排泄介助、早朝からは起床介助、更衣介助、そして朝食の準備、配膳と食事の介助を経て、最後に夜間帯で起こったことなどを記録して終わります。
