When a wheelchair user boards a bus, it also places a burden on the driver. The driver must first extend the wheelchair ramp and then operate the lift. The driver on our return trip did not seem familiar with assisting passengers in wheelchairs like him and appeared to struggle with properly extending and retracting the ramp. After stopping at the bus stop, the driver struggled for nearly 10 minutes. Eventually, the next bus caught up with us, and with help from that driver, we were finally able to depart. However, while the first driver was struggling, the other passengers on the bus seemed to grow increasingly irritated, and I noticed that their frustration was ultimately directed at the client who was trying to board in a wheelchair.

利用者が、車椅子に乗ってバスに乗る場合、まずバスの運転手にも負担がかかってきます。バスの運転手は、まず、車椅子用のステップを出さなければなりませんし、さらに車椅子用のリフトを操作しなければなりません。帰るときに乗ったバスの運転手は、このような、車椅子に乗った乗客への対応に慣れていなかったらしく、なかなかうまくステップを出したり、しまったりすることができないようでした。バス停に止まったまま、10分近くマゴマゴとしているうちに、次のバスに追いつかれてしまい、次のバスの運転手に助けてもらいながら、なんとか発車することができたのですが、運転手がもたもたしている間、バスの中の乗客もイライラしている様子が感じられ、そのイライラは、結局は、車椅子で乗り込もうとしていた利用者に向けられていることを感じることになりました。
