Otomari (overnight) day service center
While working at the group home about one day a week, I wanted to deepen my understanding of elderly welfare and gain hands-on experience with different types of care. To that end, I decided to take on a part-time night shift position at a small-scale day service provider. These small-scale facilities are officially classified as community-based outpatient day long-term care, one of the services covered under the long-term care insurance system. During the day, users can commute by shuttle to a day service center for the elderly—with a capacity of 18 people or fewer—and receive daytime care such as meals, bathing, toileting assistance, functional training, and other support with daily activities. This service is intended not only to help maintain users’ social lives, but also to reduce the burden on family members who provide care at home.

週1日程度で、グループホームで働いていたなか、高齢者福祉に関する考察を深めようと、さらにいろいろな介護の形態について実際に体験したいと思い、小規模デイサービス事業所で夜勤のアルバイトをすることにしました。小規模デイサービスとは、公式的には地域密着型通所介護と呼ばれる介護保険サービスです。日中、利用定員が18人以下の老人デイサービスセンターに送迎車などで通いながら、食事や入浴、排泄などの介護やその他の日常生活上の支援、機能訓練などを、日帰りで受けることができます。このサービスによって、利用者の社会生活が維持されるだけでなく、在宅で利用者の介護を実際に担っている家族が抱える負担感を減らすことも期待されています。
