Thus, day services are long-term care insurance services provided during the day. However, in addition to these daytime services, overnight stay services are sometimes offered at low cost to day service users, as services not covered by long-term care insurance. These types of uninsured accommodation services, sometimes called "Otomari (overnight) day services," are convenient because they can accommodate sudden requests for overnight stays. However, at one time, there were problems with elderly people staying overnight—many had to sleep together on the floor in a crowded room, side by side, without proper beds or privacy—which was reported in the media. Therefore, by the time I began working at the day service center, the various issues with the accommodation services that had been reported in the media had likely been addressed. For example, I believe efforts were made to protect users' privacy, such as separating their beds with partitions.

このように、デイサービスとは日中に行われる介護保険サービスなのですが、このような日中でのサービス以外に、デイサービスの利用者に対して、保険外での宿泊サービスが格安で提供されていることがあります。“お泊まりデイサービス”などと呼ばれることもあるようですが、このような保険外での宿泊サービスは、急な宿泊希望にも応じてくれるなど使い勝手がいい一方で、雑魚寝同然で宿泊するなどといったことが一時期問題視され、報道されたこともありました。なので、デイサービス事業所による宿泊サービスは、私が勤務するようになった頃には、それまでに報道されていたような様々な問題点も改善されていたでしょうし、例えば、利用者のプライバシーを守るために、利用者のベッドをパーテーションで仕切るといったような配慮もなされていたと思います。
