Likewise, service providers may have no choice but to use simple folding beds if they want to offer accommodation services while keeping costs down. What do the high-ranking officials in the national and local governments think about this reality? Do they truly believe that the problem lies solely with the elderly users and their families? I cannot help but feel that this country’s elderly welfare policies—which have allowed the elderly to end up in such conditions—are always one step behind. Before reaching a point where elderly people are forced to sleep on simple foldable beds, a proper environment should have been created where they could get adequate rest. I think it would be a good idea for those high-ranking officials to try sleeping on foldable beds themselves for many consecutive days. They might then understand the pain it causes in the back and waist.

格安で宿泊できるとは言っても、このような現実があるわけです。ご家族としては、このような現実にもかかわらず、経済的な問題から利用せざるを得ないという事情があるのかもしれませんし、事業所としてもコストを抑えて宿泊サービスを提供するとすれば、このような簡易ベッドを使わざるを得ないのかもしれません。国や自治体のお偉方は、このような現実をどのように考えているというのでしょうか？ あくまでも、高齢の利用者とその家族の側に問題があると考えているのでしょうか？ やはり、高齢者をこのような存在にしてしまっている国の高齢者福祉政策は後手後手だと思わざるを得ません。簡易ベッドで寝かせてしまうような状況になる前に、ゆっくりと休息をとることができる環境を整えなければならなかったのではないかと思います。一度自分たちでも簡易ベッドで何日間も寝てみたらいいのではないかと思います。背中の痛みや腰の痛みが身にしみてくるのではないかと思います。
