While I was working the night shift, the long-term users gradually moved into intensive care homes for the elderly and other facilities, and the number of users decreased one by one. Eventually, there were no users left using the overnight service, and I no longer had any night shifts. The company offered to transfer me to another day service center within the same group, but since it was a bit far from where I lived, I decided to take the opportunity to resign. In the end, I worked there for one year and three months, from July 2015 (Heisei 27) to September 2016 (Heisei 28). Of course, I learned a great deal about elderly care, but I also had the opportunity to face the realities of elderly welfare—such as seeing elderly people sleeping on simple folding beds—and to reflect deeply on the meaning of elderly care. I am grateful to all the people I had the chance to meet during my time working there.

私が夜勤として勤務している期間に、長期間利用していた利用者の方々も、だんだんと特養のような施設へ入所されていき、一人減り、二人減りしていって、最終的にお泊まりサービスを利用する方がいなくなったこともあって、夜勤に入ることがなくなってしまいました。事業所の方からは、同じ系列の別のデイサービスセンターでの仕事を紹介してくれたのですが、住んでいる実家から少し離れていたこともあり、この機会に退職することにしました。2015（平成27）年7月から2016（平成28）年9月までの1年3か月の間お世話になったことになります。もちろん、高齢者介護に関する多くのことを学ばせていただきましたが、簡易ベッドのような、高齢者福祉の現実を目の当たりにし、いろいろと考えさせていただく機会をいただきました。ここでの勤務の中で知り合うことができた多くの方々に感謝します。
