In recent years, the shortage of care workers caused by the progression of the super-aging society has been a persistent concern. As a countermeasure, policies such as increasing care workers’ salaries and allowances seem to be considered. However, I believe it is a serious mistake for high-ranking government officials to assume that raising wages alone will be enough to attract and retain care workers. Even if salaries are doubled, it means little if workloads are also doubled. I believe greater attention should be paid to the field of elderly care. While compensation is certainly important, there are many other aspects of the work environment that could—and should—be improved from the perspective of those working on the front lines. Although I will refrain from listing them here, I sincerely hope that high-ranking officials will reflect on a broad range of issues concerning the future of this country. I believe we are running out of time.

近年、超高齢社会の進展に伴う介護職員の不足が叫ばれて久しいですが、その対策として、介護職員に対する給与や手当を厚くするといった対策が考えられているようです。政府の偉い人たちが、金さえ上げれば職員は集まると考えているならば、大きな間違いだろうと思います。給与が2倍になっても、仕事がその分2倍になってしまったのでは、あまり意味がありません。もう少し、高齢者介護の現場に目を向けてもらいたいと思いました。給与の問題も確かに大事だとは思いますが、改善できるところ、職員が改善して欲しいと望んでいるところはたくさんあると思います。あえてここでは言及を控えますが、ぜひお偉いさん方には、この国の将来のために、いろいろと考えていただきたいと思います。あまり時間はありません。
