Night Shift Tasks

17:15

· Check the communication notebook and the unit log, and review residents’ vital sign records

· Review toileting records and escort each resident to the restroom

17:30

· Lead residents in swallowing exercises before dinner

· Check the laundry while residents are doing their exercises

· Place rubber sheets on the beds of certain residents while they are doing exercises

· In the kitchen: If there is fish for the next day, place it in the refrigerator to thaw and write the date on it

· Wash and dry the dishes

· Start making barley tea (use 1 pack)

18:00

· Unplug the kettle and place chopsticks under the lid to allow them to cool

· Wash the teapot and disinfect it with chlorine bleach

· Keep the entrance door locked

· Wipe the bottom of the chopstick holder with alcohol

· Prepare a chlorine bleach solution (200 ml of chlorine bleach per blue bucket of water)

· Turn on the heater in each room (ensure all windows are locked)

19:00

· Sterilize the inside of the microwave with steam

· Prepare medications (by 19:15)

· Tidy up the kitchen, including washing dishes and loading the dishwasher

· Polish the sink with an abrasive cleaner

· Wash towels and aprons

· Add 3 caps of bleach to the water in the white vat and soak the sponges

· Fill the kitchen sink with water, place cutting boards and dish towels alternately inside, and add 5 caps of bleach

· Add a little water and one cap of bleach to the blue bucket, and disinfect using a kitchen towel

(1) The outside table, the pot, the shelves, and the inside of the microwave

(2) The inside and outside of the refrigerator (sort ingredients by date), the milk drawer, the soy sauce drawer, the door seals, the freezer compartment, and the vegetable compartment

(3) Around the cupboards (refill tea leaves)

(4) The rice cooker and the kitchen counter

(5) The dishwasher

(6) The kitchen walls, sides, and handles

(7) The gas range (remove the trivet as well)

(8) The range hood and the upper cabinet

(9) Refill the bleach

· Use the linen room rag to disinfect the trash can (lid, interior, and exterior), the entire floor of the kitchen, and the fire extinguisher

· Wash the rag with laundry soap

20:00

· Hydrate the residents

· Lock the entrance door after the late-shift staff leave

· Rinse the kitchen

(1) Rinse after draining

(2) Wash the cutting board with detergent and rinse

(3) Wash the edges of the white vat as well

(4) Rinse the dishcloths and hang them under the exhaust vent to dry

(5) Take the dishcloths to the bathroom to dry, and prepare baskets for bathing

· Add two caps of bleach to the blue bucket of water (soak the corner strainer and drain kits)

· Wash the barley tea container and the cooled hot water container

· Disinfect the trays with alcohol (stack them alternately)

· Post the next day’s bathing schedule

· Post the names of staff scheduled for the next day

· Change the date (on both the hall and the desk side)

· Prepare the next day’s unit log (reinforce holes with stickers) and toilet chart

· Set out cups for the day shift staff

· Refill chlorine bleach

· Replenish tea leaves and condiments

· Clean the dryer and washing machines

· Tidy up newspapers

· Provide nighttime care for residents
