Deciding where to submit
I recall that in 2016, while working part-time at the overnight day-service center and the short-stay facility, I resolved to publish a paper based on the research I had accumulated up to that time. Although I have mentioned this many times before, I was attempting to examine the sociological issue of elderly care from the perspective of evolutionary genetics, as a question that also relates to human nature. Because of this, I did not expect that anyone would understand it easily. I was also concerned that, if I were not careful, it might be misunderstood as an overly simplistic and short-sighted theory of social evolution—such as “survival of the fittest” or “the law of the jungle”—as was seen in Japan before the war. As a result, I felt that the manuscript would probably be rejected without even being read, and to be honest, I had no idea what kind of academic journal I should submit it to. Still, since the topic was related to elderly care in Japan, I wrote the manuscript in Japanese with the intention of submitting it to a Japanese academic society specializing in elderly care. In fact, I sent the following email to that academic society to inquire whether they would consider reviewing a manuscript examining elderly care from an evolutionary genetic perspective. (Some proper nouns have been omitted for privacy.)
As a care worker and from my background in evolutionary genetics, I am interested in Japan’s current situation of declining birthrate and population aging. At the same time, I am deeply concerned about it. Over the past few years, while working, I have continued my research on the behavior of caregiving for the elderly from an evolutionary genetic perspective and have been seeking an appropriate journal in which to publish my findings. I am currently working part-time as a care worker, but I am actively engaged in caregiving, so I am very interested in the activities of the ●●●●● Society. However, I wonder whether research on caregiving for the elderly from an evolutionary genetic perspective would be appropriate for review by the ●●●●●●●●●●●● Journal.

投稿先の決定
2016年に、お泊まりデイサービスやショートステイでアルバイトしているときに、これまでアルバイトしながらコツコツと行ってきた研究を論文として発表してみようと思い立ったと記憶しています。何度も言いますが、高齢者介護といういわば社会学的な問題を、人間の自然本性にも関わる問題として進化遺伝学的な観点から考察していこうというわけですから、そもそも理解してもらえる人がいるとも思えませんでしたし、下手をすると、優勝劣敗や弱肉強食のような、戦前の日本に見られたような非常に安易な社会進化説のように誤解されて、原稿さえ読んでもらえずに却下されるのがオチのような気がしていたので、どのような専門誌に投稿したらいいのか、正直わかりませんでした。それでも、やっぱり日本の高齢者介護の問題でしたので、日本の高齢者介護に関連のある学会に投稿することを考えて、日本語で原稿を執筆していました。実際に、高齢者介護を進化遺伝学的に考察したという論文原稿を受け付けてもらえるかどうかということについて、日本の高齢者介護に関連のある、ある学会に以下のような問い合わせのメールを送って確認してみました（一部の固有名詞について修正を加えています）。
介護を行いながら、また私のバックグラウンドである進化遺伝学的な観点から、日本が現在置かれている少子高齢化という状況に興味を持つと同時に、深く憂慮をいたしております。ここ数年の間、働きながらですが研究を続け、進化遺伝学的な観点から、高齢者の介護という行動について考察し、得られた知見について論文として発表できる投稿先を探しておりました。私自身は、現在パートではありますが現役の介護職員であり、●●●●●学会の活動内容にとても興味がありますが、進化遺伝学的な観点から高齢者の介護という行動について考察したという内容は、「●●●●●●●●●●●」誌の審査の対象としてふさわしいでしょうか？
