Drawing on the conclusions from the evolutionary genetic models I have used so far, as well as on insights from evolutionary hypotheses such as the grandmother hypothesis, I believe that my approach to caring for my parents and acquaintances is to pursue a form of elderly care that does not merely leave older people waiting for death while imposing enormous costs on the younger generation, but instead asks how elderly individuals can continue to contribute to the next generation, including their children and grandchildren. While caring for my grandmother and working as a care worker in elderly care facilities, I learned a great deal from both my grandmother and the elderly residents and clients. I believe that these experiences have offered me many different perspectives and possibilities regarding elderly care.

私がこれまでに用いてきた進化遺伝学的モデルから導かれる結論や、例えば祖母仮説のような進化学的な仮説から得られる知見に基づくならば、自分の両親や知人に対する私の介護におけるテーマは、高齢者をただ死を待つだけの存在にし、若者世代に対して大きなコストのみを課すような高齢者介護の在り方ではなく、いかにして子や孫などの次世代に対して寄与することができるかを考えた、高齢者介護の在り方を考えていくこと、これに尽きると思います。祖母の介護や、介護職員として介護施設で勤務していく中で、祖母をはじめ高齢利用者の方々から多くのことを教えていただいてきました。私に、介護に関する多くのオプション、選択肢を与えてくださったと思っています。
