Therefore, in my case, which is of course closely related to my evolutionary genetic models of elderly care, I believe that I need to think as carefully and concretely as possible about the costs of care. In particular, I would like to focus on questions such as how much it would cost to realize the kind of later life my parents desire; how much it would cost if the same goals were pursued using long-term care insurance services; how much the cost would differ if they could be achieved without relying on such services; and how satisfied my parents would be as a result of putting these plans into practice. As I have mentioned so far, I have had the opportunity to work in a wide variety of care-related positions, including home-visit care service, paid nursing home, group homes for people with dementia, overnight day-service facility, short-stay facility, and positions specializing in night shifts. In addition, although only for a few months, I also worked as a care manager at a small-scale multifunctional care facility, where I was involved in creating care plans. Therefore, I believe that I can estimate, to a certain extent, how much such care would cost. As is well known, a large amount of public funding is poured into the long-term care insurance system. Because this system directly affects the lives of citizens, it should not be cut back more than necessary. At the same time, given that the number of elderly people who will require long-term care insurance is expected to increase in the future, it will be essential to reduce unnecessary expenditures. I believe that this will make a significant contribution to the sustainability of the system and to society as a whole.

よって、私の場合には、もちろん高齢者介護の進化遺伝学的モデルとも関わりがあることなのですが、介護にかかるコストのことについて、できるだけ詳細に考えていかなければならないと思っています。私の両親が望む老後を実現するためには、どれくらいの費用がかかるのか、例えば、同じことを介護保険を使って行った場合にはどのくらいの費用がかかるのか、使わずに行うことができれば、その差額はどれくらいになるのか、実践してみた結果両親はどれくらい満足が得られたのか、といったことに注目し、検証していきたいと思っています。これまで述べてきたように、私は一応介護職として一通りの職場を経験させていただいてきましたし（ホームヘルプサービス、有料老人ホーム、認知症対応型グループホーム、お泊りデイサービス、ショートステイ、夜勤専従含む）、そしてほんの数か月でしたが、小規模多機能型居宅介護事業所において一応ケアマネとしてケアプランの作成にも携わったことがあります。なので、どれくらいの費用がかかるかは、ある程度計算することができると思います。介護保険制度には、ご存知のように多くの公費が投入されています。国民の生命にもかかわってくることなので、必要以上に切り詰めることはあってはならないと思いますが、それでも今後介護保険制度を必要とする高齢者が増加していくことを考えると、使わなくてもいい費用は減らしていかなければならないでしょうし、それはそのまま国家に対する大きな貢献につながるのではないかと私は考えています。
