As population aging continues to progress, when we think about what this country will be like fifty or a hundred years from now, the only conclusion we can draw is that the issues surrounding elderly care that today’s children will have to face in the future will be extremely serious. When we thought about what we could leave for the children living today, we came to believe that the most important thing we could do was to leave them materials for judgment and reflection. In other words, we decided to record and preserve what we thought and did when we faced the task of caring for our parents, whether this enabled them to enjoy happy later lives, and, conversely, what kinds of mistakes we made and what we should have done differently. This is why we decided to establish the Limited Liability Partnership Association for Evolutionary Research on Aging Populations, in order to consider and examine various issues surrounding elderly care, with a particular focus on caring for parents within the family. Going forward, as I care for people close to me, such as my parents and other relatives, I would like to examine elderly care from various perspectives and accumulate a wide range of findings, using the evolutionary genetics I have studied so far as a foundation. By doing so, I hope to leave materials for the next generation, who will face even more serious issues surrounding elderly care in the future, to help them think about and make decisions regarding their own challenges.

高齢化がさらに進行し､50年後､100年後にこの国がどうなっているかを考えた時に､今の子どもたちが将来抱える高齢者介護の問題は､かなり深刻な問題になっているだろうという結論しか恐らく出てこないのではないでしょうか｡今の子どもたちに何を残すことができるかを考えた時に､両親の介護に直面し､私たちがどういうことを考え､どういうことを行ってきたか､その結果どういう幸福な老後を両親は送ることができたのか､あるいは逆にどういう失敗があったのか､どうすれば良かったのか､といったことを記録し､残しておくことによって､未来を担う子どもたちに判断､考察の材料を残すことが私たちにとってもっとも必要なことなのではないだろうかと考えました。私たちが有限責任事業組合 進化・高齢集団研究社を立ち上げ、高齢者介護、特に家族の間で親を介護することに焦点を当てて、さまざまな問題について考察し検証していこうと考えた理由はここにあります｡これから両親や家族など、身近な人たちの介護の中で、自分がこれまで学んできた進化遺伝学を背景にしながら、高齢者介護についていろいろと考え、さまざまな知見を積み重ねていきたいと考えています。そうすることにより、将来さらに深刻な高齢者介護の問題に直面するであろう子供たちの世代に対して、いろいろなことを考え、判断するための材料を残していきたいと考えています。
