Point mutations in acetylcholinesterase
While I was in Edinburgh, the French research group that had been leading this work published two consecutive papers on mutations in acetylcholinesterase in D. melanogaster (Menozzi et al., 2004; Shi et al., 2004). Looking back, I am not sure whether, when I was reading these papers, I had already heard about the results concerning the resistance gene on the third chromosome that I had mapped during my graduate studies, either from my former advisor at Tsukuba or from the graduate student who was conducting the experiments. But I believe that one or both of them probably had told me. Furthermore, I believe that I was also informed about these two papers by either my former advisor or the graduate student, and in any case, I found them very helpful when thinking about how to proceed with my next research project.

アセチルコリンエステラーゼの点突然変異
私がエジンバラに滞在していた時に、このフランスの研究者たちが2本続けて、ショウジョウバエのアセチルコリンエステラーゼの突然変異に関する論文を発表していました（Menozzi et al., 2004; Shi et al., 2004）。この論文を読んでいた時に、私が大学院時代に位置決定した第3染色体上の抵抗性遺伝子の正体について、筑波の指導教官や実験を行っていた大学院生から情報をすでに得ていたかどうか、ちょっと記憶が定かではないのですが、多分教えてもらっていたのだろうと思います。さらに、この2つの論文についても、指導教官か大学院生から教えてもらっていたのではないかと思いますが、いずれにせよ、つぎのプロジェクトでどのように研究を進めていくかを考えるときに、とても参考にさせていただきました。
