It had been a very long time since I had last collected a natural population in Katsunuma, and I felt a sense of nostalgia. However, I cannot quite remember whether the highway bus service had changed or whether there was some other reason, but instead of the bus stop I had usually used in the past, I had to use one a little farther away. It was the height of summer, and I remember sweating profusely just walking back and forth between bus stops, which left me completely exhausted. I cannot say for certain whether global warming had any effect, but I remember it being extremely hot, and in fact the number of Drosophila flies I was able to collect was very small. Katsunuma is well known as a collection site for Drosophila, and I believe it is one of the best places in Japan for collecting flies; however, I feel that the impact of recent climate change is a cause for concern.

勝沼で実際に採集を行うのは、とても久しぶりだったと思います。懐かしくもあったのですが、でも高速バスの運行状況が変わってしまっていたのか、何かの事情があったのか、よく覚えていないのですが、これまでいつも使っていた高速バスの停留所ではなく、そこからちょっと離れた停留所を使わなければなりませんでした。真夏の暑い盛りだったので、停留所を往復するだけで大量の汗をかいてしまい、バテバテになってしまった記憶があります。温暖化の影響があったかどうか、何とも言えませんが、とても暑かったという記憶があり、実際に採集できたショウジョウバエの個体数もわずかでした。勝沼はショウジョウバエの採集地として有名であり、日本の中でもショウジョウバエを採集することができる有数の場所だと思いますが、近年の気候変動の影響が危惧されるところだろうと思います。
