This may not seem particularly significant to those who are not interested in the topic, but since deciding to study insecticide resistance, I have conducted my research based on the hypothesis that the possibility of multiple resistance factors in insect populations should not be ruled out. In that sense, I feel I was able to obtain fairly satisfactory results. I was able to begin my experiments on acetylcholinesterase immediately after returning from Edinburgh, and within the limited time of one year, I believe I was able to make reasonably good progress in my research. This was also largely thanks to the valuable knowledge accumulated by the graduate student who had been conducting molecular genetic analyses of acetylcholinesterase while I was in Edinburgh.

興味がない人にはどうということもないのかもしれませんが、抵抗性研究を志して以降、昆虫集団中には複数の抵抗性因子が存在する可能性を排除するべきではないと考えて研究を行ってきた私としては、まあまあ納得することができる結果を得ることができたのだろうと思います。エジンバラから帰国してすぐに、アセチルコリンエステラーゼの実験に取り掛かることができ、1年間という限られた時間の中で、比較的思うように研究を進めることができたのではないかと思います。これも、私がエジンバラに滞在している間にアセチルコリンエステラーゼの分子遺伝学的な解析を行っていた大学院生が、とても有用な知見を積み上げてくれていたおかげだったと思います。
