Luckily, I was able to catch the high-speed train. However, during the several-hour journey to Toulouse, I had to keep blowing my nose because of my rhinitis. I suffer from hay fever, but since arriving in France I had not experienced any symptoms, so I assumed it was probably the dust on the train that triggered it. By the end of the trip, the handkerchief I had brought with me was in a miserable state. After arriving in Toulouse, I had to take a bus to the research institute where the professor was working, and frankly, I still wonder how I managed to get there. My memories of it are rather vague. I found myself in a city I had never visited before, relying on a guidebook and feeling quite alone, and yet, somehow, I managed to reach my destination. I can only describe it as a series of fortunate coincidences.

運よく高速列車に間にあったのですが、トゥールーズまでの数時間の間、列車の中で、鼻炎のためにずっと鼻をかんでいなければなりませんでした。もともと花粉症ではありましたが、フランスについてから、花粉症の兆候は出ていなかったので、多分、列車の中の埃などが原因だったのだろうと思います。持っていたハンカチが悲惨なことになっていました。トゥールーズについてからも、先生がいらっしゃった研究所までバスに乗って行かなければならなかったのですが、はっきりといって、なぜその研究所までたどり着くことができたのか、今でもとても不思議に思っています。かすかな記憶しかないのですが、来たこともない街で、ガイドブックを頼りに、心細い思いをしながら、これも奇跡的にたどり着くことができました。幸運が重なっていたのだろうと思います。
