Nevertheless, I managed to buy a ticket and board the train, but it moved like a slow local train and made very little progress. In the end, the train I was on turned back toward Munich. Although it was disappointing, I had no choice but to abandon my plan to travel all the way to the Danube. The weather was not very good, and it rained intermittently, but it did not seem particularly severe at the time, so I felt quite dissatisfied. However, after I returned to Japan, I later learned that a record-breaking storm had been approaching Europe at the time and had caused extensive damage. To be honest, I was angry then and kept wondering what on earth was going on. But looking back now, it was probably for the best that I did not force myself to continue the trip. With a storm approaching, perhaps it was simply bad luck.

それでも、なんとか切符を買って列車に乗り込んだのですが、各駅停車のように鈍行で、なかなか先に進めませんでした。結局、乗っていた列車も途中からミュンヘンに引き返すことになり、残念ではありましたが、ドナウ川まで遠征するという計画を断念せざるを得ませんでした。確かに天気はあまりよくはなく、断続的に雨が降ることはありましたが、それほど荒れているという印象はなかったので、内心は不満タラタラでした。でも、日本に帰ってから知ったところによれば、ヨーロッパに記録的な嵐が近づいていたそうで、被害も甚大だったそうです。正直なところ、いったい何なのだとその時には憤ったのですが、でも無理にドナウ川遠征を強行しなくてよかったのかもしれません。嵐が近づいていたのですから、運が悪かったとしか言いようがありません。
