介護福祉士 (Certified care worker)
Obtaining certification as a certified care worker does not necessarily make the job any easier. However, when I say I am a certified care worker, others recognize that I have at least three years of experience in the field. I am sure the meaning of a certification differs for each person, but for me, it is like a certificate of practical experience in the field of elderly care, so to speak. Well, when I tried to submit my application, the Human Resources department was slow to issue the necessary documents, and I even ended up having to send a content-certified registered letter. Although I continued to have such unpleasant experiences, I somehow managed to obtain my care worker certification. The meaning of a certification may differ from person to person, but to me, it serves as proof that I worked in the field as a care worker for more than three years. It feels like a...
In the process of obtaining the national qualification of Certified Care Worker, I feel that I gained a great deal. One thing in particular is that, although my reason for taking the care skills training course was rather weak—just to be exempted from the practical exam—I believe that participating in the course allowed me to objectively reflect on my own caregiving skills to some extent. This is because, after all, I had repeatedly practiced my care skills in front of others—sometimes...
National examination for certified care workers The 28th National Examination for Certified Care Workers, which I took, was held on Sunday, January 24, 2016 (Heisei 28). The exam was divided into a morning and an afternoon session. The morning session covered subjects related to humans and society, and care, while the afternoon session focused on the mechanisms of the mind and body, along with comprehensive questions. There were a total of 120 questions, primarily in a multiple-choice format...
I learned a great deal from the care skills training course and found it very rewarding. What surprised me most was that the instructors who demonstrated the care skills never knelt down or sat directly on the floor. In my work at care facilities up to that point, I would often kneel or sit directly on the floor with my knees pulled up to my chest when making eye contact with clients and residents seated in chairs. However, the instructor told me, “Certified care workers do not kneel.” It...
During an exercise in the training course, the instructor demonstrated how a care worker should communicate and apply care skills when assisting Mr. A, who has right hemiplegia and aphasia, during mealtime. Below is a summary of the notes I took during that demonstration. During the comprehensive evaluation, a final practical exam was conducted with the instructors, and I created this as image training to prepare for that exam. Since I am not particularly good at communicating with others, I...
In each exercise, the instructor first gave a demonstration to model how to provide care once. After that, the trainees were divided into groups, and each trainee took turns practicing within their group. There was no way I could understand what to do after just one demonstration. However, I had to perform in front of the other trainees in my group, so if I did poorly, I would feel embarrassed and want to run away. With my heart pounding, I watched the trainees before me with intense focus,...
The care skills training course consisted of eight components: development of the care process, communication techniques, mobility assistance, excretion care, dressing and undressing assistance, eating assistance, bathing assistance, and a final overall evaluation. In total, the course lasted more than 32 hours. The training course I attended took place over four days between September 22 and October 13, 2015 (Heisei 27), with each session held one week apart. Each day began at 8:30 a.m. and...
When I took the national examination for certified psychiatric social workers, I had already studied all the relevant areas of welfare, so I was not too worried about the written exam. However, when it came to the practical exam, I felt uncertain about the level of care skills I had learned, experienced, and acquired up to that point. This was because I felt that the care skills I had learned in the Level 2 Helper course only barely scratched the surface. Furthermore, to put it bluntly, the...
Care skills training The 28th National Examination for Certified Care Workers, which I took in 2015 (Heisei 27), was divided into a written exam and a practical exam. The written exam covered subjects such as human dignity and independence, human relationships and communication, understanding of society, the basics of elderly care, communication skills, life support skills, the care process, understanding of development and aging, understanding of dementia, understanding of disabilities, the...
